How far ahead should you book a photographer in Connecticut?

Timing matters more than most people expect — especially here in Connecticut, where the calendar fills up fast around foliage season and the holidays. Here's a simple guide to how far in advance to reach out, so you never miss the date you want.

The short answer

• Portrait sessions: 3–4 weeks is comfortable for most of the year.
• Events: 6–8 weeks or more — the sooner the better, since dates are exclusive.
• Peak season: add a few weeks. Demand spikes in fall and around the holidays.

Why fall fills up first around New Haven

From late September through November, everyone wants the same thing: warm light and that New England foliage. Family portraits, Class of 2027 senior photos, and couples sessions all compete for a handful of golden-hour weekends across East Haven and Greater New Haven. If you're dreaming of fall color, plan to book by late summer.

Events need the most lead time

An event date is exclusive — once it's booked, it's gone. Reaching out early also gives us time to plan event coverage properly: walking the timeline, arranging a second shooter if you want one, and scheduling your 60-second recap reel if it's part of the package.

What if it's last minute?

Sometimes the calendar opens up, and short-notice sessions do happen. If your date is close, reach out anyway — the worst I can say is that I'm booked, and I'll always try to point you in the right direction.
